BENTO: First Patients in

The Thoraxklinik Heidelberg enrolls the first patient in the BENTO trial

The first patient is a milestone for every clinical trial. It launches the joint work of the study physicians, the study centers and the project managers at IHF GmbH.

Professor Herth, who is also acting as the National Coordinating Investigator and his team enrolled the first 2 patients in the study. Prof. Darwiche's team at the Ruhrlandklinik Essen also successfully enrolled its first patient in the BENTO study in mid-May 2024.

Under Prof. Herth, the study is focusing for the first time on the treatment of patients with severe pulmonary emphysema.

The trial is intended to help prove the benefits of bronchoscopic lung volume reduction using thermal ablation (thermal volume reduction, BTVA) as an effective and safe treatment option to ensure patients with severe emphysema receive adequate, appropriate and cost-effective care in line with evidence-based medical findings.

The IHF GmbH team wishes the first and all subsequent patients a quick recovery and good health with a high quality of life.
